にごり水
ここ数日ものすごく降りました。幸い私の周囲では被害と言うほどの話は出ておりませんで、私たちも含め無事に過ごしております。ただ一点を除いて・・・
２～３日前から我が家の水がにごっております。うちの水は全て井戸水の汲み上げなのですが、それは風呂場から始まりました。と言うよりは風呂は水をためるので色が見えやすいと言うことです。
これまでもたまには少しにごっていたこともあったのですが、今回はあまりにもひどかったので、少々心配にもなりまして、お隣さんにも相談してみました。
色々と聞いてみますとどうやらうちの井戸は浅いのではないかということです。ボーリングをしているところを見たことがないと言うので、おそらく昔からの手掘りの井戸の上にポンプを設置しているのではないかという推測です。そうなりますとたいした深さではありません。
で、これだけの雨がまとまって降りますとその井戸にも水が流れ込むということではないかと。
とりあえず裏山の崩れは心配しなくてもよさそうでしたのでそれだけは安心しましたが、水のことについてはあらためて考えさせられました。
ひどい雨が降るとその大量の雨水が土に浸透して水の道にも直結してしまうということですから、地下深くから汲み上げるほどの濾過能力はないわけです。当然、地表近くからのあらゆるものを水に溶かし込みながら流入してくるという構図は容易に想像がつくわけです。
除草剤や各種の農薬、重金属や合成化学物質を含んだ産業廃棄物から生活廃水や家庭ゴミまでありとあらゆるものが無造作に捨てられたり埋められたりしていますが、そういったものも最終的にはどこかの水の道に入り込み、そこから河へ、海へとつながっているはずなんだなあ、とあらためて我々現代人の無責任さを気づかされるわけです。
立地条件から見て、おそらくうちの井戸にはその類のものは流入していないだろうとは思いますが、これも地下でのことですから１００％の自信はもてません。とりあえず今まで美味しく水が飲めているという結果論からの推測だけのことです。
「水に流す」とか「臭いものには蓋」とか水や都合の悪いものに関する言葉も日本語には数々ありますが、こうした言葉が生まれた時代とは全く状況が変わってきているんですね。水や土の浄化能力を超えるものばかりを作っては垂れ流しているわけですから、もう「水に流す」なんてことでは何も解決しないどころか、逆に迷惑や被害を拡大させる行為でしかなくなっているのかもしれません。「臭いものには蓋」の原理で埋めて見えなくするってのも同じことですね。
「ゴミを減らそう」 「ポイ捨てやめよう」 「川や海をきれいに」なんて標語を作って頑張る前に自分たちが日常使っているものがその辺に捨ててもいいものばかりだったら何の問題もないんですよね。昔はそうだったわけですから。
以前読んだ小説に(何だったか忘れましたが、明治期の小説でしたね)汽車の窓から弁当箱を投げ捨てるということが当たり前のように書いてありました。確実にこの弁当箱はプラ製品ではありませんよね。
ゴミを投げ捨てるという行為そのものの是非は別として、「あ、これは土に還るのか」と思った記憶があります。
ホント、収拾の着かない話になってきましたが、こんな水源近い田舎ですらこの状態ですから川下へ行けば行くほど事態は深刻なんだよなあって。しかも上水道って川から直接取水してますもんねえ。下水道も結局は河へ流して終わりですしね。
表層しか見えない日常の中でこういうことが起こるとほんの少しだけ真実に近づけるきっかけを与えてもらっているのかもしれません。
